City of Monroe Hosts Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Honoring the Victims and Heroes of September 11th

The City of Monroe will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Sunday, September 11, 2023, at 9:00 AM at the Monroe Firefighters Memorial Park located at 123 Main Street.

The ceremony will commemorate the 21st anniversary of the September 11th attacks and honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day. The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor John Smith, Fire Chief Robert Jones, and Police Chief Michael Brown. There will also be a reading of the names of the victims, a moment of silence, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Monroe Senior Center located at 100 Civic Center Drive.

The City of Monroe has a long history of honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11. In 2002, the city dedicated a memorial to the victims of the attacks at the Monroe Firefighters Memorial Park.
